ABOUT FARHEEN ALI
Hi! My name is Farheen and I am a Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist. My work spans a variety of art forms, such as medical illustration, Japanese Sumi-e brush painting and jewelry art.
For as long as I can remember, I have been intrigued by hidden connections in our everyday world. Whether it is the way the branches of a tree mimic the branching arteries and vessels in the human body, or how natural stone and can be ground to make paint for a painting, it’s these shared interrelationships which drive all my work.
The name “The Spring Moon”—which is now the name of my jewelry business—was given to me by my Japanese Sumi-e instructor after a 5 year-long apprenticeship. It is my hope that by using this name for my jewelry works, all who wear my art forms will become a part of my ongoing creative journey, weaving their own unique stories into each piece they wear.
My jewelry builds on these connections as I create pieces exclusively for museums which are inspired by manuscripts and artwork in their collections. Many of my pieces are currently being exhibited at the Aga Khan Museum and Gardiner Museum shops.
Thank you for coming along on this ride with me. I hope you enjoy these pieces of art as much as I enjoyed creating them.
